Literacy

Today we will be working with our 'My Printing Book #1' -- lowercase letters -- as well as our 'letter cards'. Our letter today is letter 'e'

#1) Listen to the Jolly phonics song - Jolly Phonics Letter E

- Have your child do their best to follow along with the words.

- Action: Pretend to crack an egg against the side of a pan with one hand, use both hands to open the shell saying "eh eh eh"

Here is the link if the video above isn't working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPkKw23PMpQ

#2) Print letters - Letter e is not the first page in the book, please have your child go through each page (say each letter as they go through) until they find letter e.

- Ensure they are holding their pencil properly

- Complete each row one by one.

Tips:

- ALWAYS start at the dot

- I like to say that the rows that the students are printing on are like a house (SEE BELOW). Make sure you don't go through the roof or the floor! We want to stay inside the house.

Take a picture of your child's work and upload it to Seesaw

#3) Find the letter E card

- Color the E card

- Cut out the letter E card

- Practice saying the letter sound

note: please keep these cards as we work through each letter.

Take a picture of your child's work and upload it to Seesaw

#4) StoryBots letter E video

Optional: Can your child draw a picture of an animal that starts with the letter E?

Numeracy

Cut out the ten frames (the red paper) - stay on the dotted lines.

After cutting out the ten frames use the number rocks that you created last week to play this game:

  1. Pick up a number rock - what number is it?

  2. Find the ten frame that matches the number rock (we only have numbers 0-5, but please feel free to create rocks 0-10)

  3. For a challenge (though not expected) - Have your child grab two rocks and add them together - which ten frame matched the added number?

Story Time

Clark The Shark

Before reading, ask:

- What do you think this book is going to be about?

- Who do you think Clark the Shark is? Is he nice?

Click the link below to listen to the story "Clark The Shark"

After listening, ask:

- What does Clark teach us?

- Why is it important to be considerate about other peoples’ feelings?

- Why are class rules (any rules) important?

- Have you ever gotten upset with a friend because of the way they were acting?

- Think about a time when you have been too loud or too wild for your classmates or family. What happened?

Discussion Extension:

1. “Clark loved his life!” Tell me some of the things that are “awesome”, “sweet” and “rock” in your life.

2. Clark found life so exciting, but his best friend said, “You are making me crazy!”. Why do you think Clark’s friends stopped playing with him at recess, lunch and circle time?

3. Think about a time when you may have been too loud, too wild or just too much for your family or classmates. What happened?

4. Clark got a big idea in his head to help him “stay cool”. Do you think this was a good solution?

5. Clark makes a rhyme to help him remember every time. Can you make up a rhyme to help you stay in control of your behavior?

Movement

Have a dance party. Play your favorite music and dance to the beat.

Art

Follow along to the video below!!

Reminders:

  • No school tomorrow! (it is our off Friday)

  • For Monday we will need fruit loops! These can be the off brand (or any type of fruit loops you choose!) As long as they are colorful! I believe you can get them at Dollarama.

  • If your child comes on the video call in the morning, and our meeting hasn't started, feel free to encourage them to say hi to other kids! Interacting with other children and building social skills is SO important in Kindergarten and with our unique situation, it can be hard to create opportunities for our children to do this!
